Students of Galileo Magnet High School in Danville VA held a unity rally in response to the mass shooting in Parkland Florida. Here are my comments:
“Danville City Council member Gary Miller, who attended the event, said school shootings were something his generation just didn’t have to worry about.
“I feel really emotionally attached to these kids,” Miller said.
Miller said he thought bans on bump stocks — a device used to increase the rate of gunfire in semi-automatic rifles — and assault weapons — the civilian version of a military carbine with the same appearance — would both be good measures to prevent mass violence.
“I hunted for years,” Miller said, explaining that he never needed an assault weapon for that activity.”
